Environmental NewsCarbon Footprint / Action GroupWe are part of the Low Carbon Action Group in Dorset. Carbon footprint is going to be vital in the future and we expect specific legislation to start coming into force. With our new Carbon Management System we will be ahead of the masses. The primary objectives include: - Reduce our carbon footprint
- Implement the carbon management system
- Communicate this effectively with our clients
Electric VehiclesCommunity Clean is introducing electric vehicles to the fleet as part of a new pavement cleaning contract with Veolia. The electric vehicles will make a massive reduction in CO2 emissions and fuel cost savings. Hybrid VehiclesCommunity Clean will be getting even greener this year! With a growing team we have been looking at all possible options to reduce our carbon footprint. To this end, we will be adding Hybrid cars to our fleet. On European roads, most petrol-hybrids reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions (per mile) by around 25% compared to an equivalent petrol car. All regulated emissions are significantly reduced for a petrol-hybrid passenger car as compared to a conventional petrol vehicle. These include reductions in carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and NOx of up to 90%. IT AdvancesCommunity Clean is going even greener! We have replaced 12 PC workstations with a thin client solution. Consolidating our IT network, giving remote access to our staff, cutting travelling and reducing power consumption by 70%. Sharon Parker, Community Clean's Office Manager says, "we are always looking at ways to improve our operation and these changes will certainly help efficiencies in several areas of the business." ISO 14001:2004Specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organization to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account relevant requirements and environmental aspects. It applies to those environmental aspects that we as a company have identified as those which it can control and those which it can influence. Protection of the environment is part of Community Cleans values and principles and we consider it to be sound practice. Care for the environment is one of our key responsibilities and an important part of the way in which we do business. Community Clean was one of the first businesses in Dorset to achieve the standard. |
